Lustral water is a blessing and purifying water found in many ancient cultures and folk magic practices, and is used for spiritual cleansing, purifying the body and ritual tools, and also for use when transitioning from the everyday, or mundane realm into the sacred, or divine realm. Traditional recipes mix spring or sea water with sea salt, and may also add plant material that has been ritually burned, as well as adding in incense.
Also called 'Khernips' (χέρνιψ), this was a sacred ritual cleansing water, that was used in ancient Greek and is still used in modern Hellenic polytheism practices. It was made specifically for washing ones hands, and feet and/or face, and was intended to remove spiritual pollution, or miasma' before sacred rituals, or before entering into sacred spaces, such as temples.
My recipe is made with distilled water, and a bit of high proof alcohol as this allows for a much longer shelf life. I've also added several mica powders to create a gorgeous, ethereal pearlized sheen to the water, a bit of sea salt, and a special blend of very sacred essential oils once used in ancient temple rites...it smells heavenly, and divine!
Add a bit of your lustral water to a bath, use to cleanse your aura, and sprinkle a few drops or rub onto crystals and ritual tools. To activate and dedicate your water, recite prayers, incantations and blessings over the bottle, and place upon your altar.
