CANDLE MAGIC BY MOONLIGHT
Fire is wild, primal, and awesome. It is magic at its most powerful.
When one is working with this element, you are working with one of the most potent of magical qualities, which is that of creation/destruction.
There are many ways to work with fire to infuse its essence into your magic— such as burning incense (which is also an expression of the air element), but you will find that working with candles as your primary fire magic tool is a very universal, adaptable and very successful way to empower almost any ritual.
For centuries many cultures have utilized fire for cooking, warmth and energy, and the candle for illumination as well as for magical, religious and spiritual ceremony, as fire was considered a Divine gift and blessing—as it’s smoke was an excellent medium to carry one’s intentions and prayers to Heaven and The Divine. It is thought that the Ancient Egyptians ‘invented’ the candle, which was inspired by their use of reeds soaked in animal fat, which were then ignited as torches.
I like to empower all of my magical workings and rituals with the element of fire by using candles. Even when lighting a candle simply for ambiance and aromatherapy in my home, I often take a moment to close my eyes before lighting the wick, then I stare into the flame, marveling at its mystical nature.
It is said that the Universe began with a big bang and was literally brought into being from the nothingness by the fiery, silent flames of a deep space explosion. To set something on fire is to set something into motion. It is an alchemical action that cannot be undone. It is the complete destruction of one thing, to create a completely new thing. Fire is death, it is birth, and it is power.
